Studio 311

Katherine Aberle founded Studio 311 to focus her varied creative interests in forms and materials that are both precious and enduring. After receiving a BA from the University of California in fine Arts, Katherine became a staff member of the prestigious Gemological Institute of America. During her 10 years at GIA, she taught design courses and developed new classes for the permanent curriculum.
Today Katherine finds inspiration in the rich traditions of the Celtic, African and Native American cultures as well as classical periods of art and architecture. The basic symbols and shapes were gathered from items as diverse as fabric borders, book ornamentation and ancient armor to the natural surroundings of the beautiful California coastlands. She has integrated these timeless themes into her "intaglio" wedding band collections.
Katherine currently makes her home in a rural are north of San Francisco. She lives in a hundred year old Victorian farmhouse filled with family and pets and the constant atmosphere of noisy creativity. Katherine also makes time to retreat to the artisan community of Sedona to continue the exploration for new inspiration amidst the dramatic red tock canyons and endless desert sky.
